Founding member of Sonic Youth and reluctant fashion designer, Kim Gordon, is designing a capsule collection with Sportmax, which includes a dress, a tunic and a tee (see image above, which, not for nothing, but that is a freaking terrible image of Gordon), inspired by nature and abstract water colors. The items will debut at a party at the SoHo Sportmax store on Fashion Night Out on September 10, with her main squeeze, Thurston Moore handling dj duties. According to the WSJ, Gordon will be hanging around New York to attend Fashion Week’s two hottest shows, Rodarte and Alexander Wang (how do I hate you Ms. Gordon….let me count the ways!) 1. [...] NEWS / Kim Gordon X Sportmax « By Mish | September 8, 2010 | Link | No Comments Founding bass player of Sonic Youth, Kim Gordon, has teamed up with Sportmax to design a capsule collection. The line includes a tee, tunic and a dress, but will this be a throw back to her infamous late 90s line, X Girl? Somehow, we doubt it since Kim Gordon’s work with Sportmax will be inspired by nature and abstract water colors. Even though, Gordon has been involved in fashion for over ten years–arguably, she has been a muse since the days of Daydream Nation–Kim doesn’t identify as a “designer” (or “musician” for that matter). “I’m an artist,” said Kim. “I’m really interested in how fashion works for people in different ways. It is mostly marketing and branding, kind of how you can put on a dress and something can make you feel good, but it doesn’t add anything to you, unless it’s building an image.” The collection will debut at the New York SoHo Sportmax store for Fashion Night Out on September 10, where Kim’s husband and band mate, Thurston flannel-lean-and-tall Moore will be DJing. “I’m a little nervous because I don’t love big parties,” she says. “But I’m curious about how it’s all going to be set up and look like.” Yeah, us too.
