Style With Elsa Klensch: Thierry Mugler 1988

One of the departed gems of fashion reporting that is no more is Style With Elsa Klensch, covering the clothes, the designers, his inspiration. Enjoy a look at the Thierry Mugler Fall 1988 collection featuring icons like Iman and Pat Cleaveland, who were part of a time when fashion and its presentation was about grown and sexy women,  a little over the top sometimes but nevertheless told  so much more of a story than the almost  pre-pubescent stomping we have been forced to look at  season after season. Models today can still  be stunning in their own way,  but I find a weird disconnect in  putting a sixteen year old who is still growing into ultra-sophisticated apparel, when women  almost double her age end up actually buying…

Daisy Balloon Workshop At Sunday Issue Lounge

Daisy Balloon Workshop At Sunday Issue Lounge

Sunday Issue, an art lounge, is now holding  what has to be described as an “only in Tokyo event,” a balloon workshop conducted by Hosokai aka Daisy Balloon. Her work is new to me but from my quick search, she has been highlighted quite a bit on various art and fashion websites over the past few years. Apparently she wins every balloon contest in all the land. I’m not sure what the competition is but cheez, it’s easy to see how she pops all their bubbles (haha), oh wait…or maybe floats high above the competition. Okay, someone stop me!

More balloon fashion after the flip.

Adrian Mustelin Evening Spectacles

Exclusively handmade from acetate, Adrian Mustelin has been designing sunglasses for some  heavy hitters like Whyred & Martin Lamothe since 2007 . He recently  introduced one of the first lines of eyewear designed to be worn at night, featuring pale lenses that contrast dark blue and green environments without altering color perception. As much as I do not care for the look of shades at night, I totally get the whole mystique and separation from others ”the look” can create and of course Corey Hart’s song. View more night time shades  on the flip via neo2.

black in white toy 01 curatedmag Luke Chuehs Vinyl Toy Hops On Plushie Train

It could get to the point where there’s a need to ad a plushie category, given my level of obsession, which has been ongoing since that danged M.O.B. video from long ago, matched to some degree recently by the incredible Kia ad (omg, the robot doing the robot!!), not so sure about Karl Lagerfeld’s recent contribution–I admire his balls but perhaps not the end product–somehow the fur isn’t right…not soft enough!. As such, while fishing around at our partner site, Curated, this Luke Chueh “Black in White” vinyl toy featuring a plushie suit almost caused my heart to instantaneously split in two. And the knife detail–somehow the perfect exclamation point! Find out more details at Curated.

RussianVogueSeptFashionising Piglet Featured In Russian Vogue Accessory Shoot

Someone was bored at Russian Vogue and came up with the idea of using a piglet to show the accessories, rather than a model. Since I don’t know whether or not U.S. stereotypes (dirty, glutonous, lazy) of pig personalities translate to Russian (are they universal??) not sure what the message is that’s being sent. But the piglet’s teeny-tiny, lil cloven feet are adorable! Via Fashionising.

Emmy Awards: Heidi, Kim K, Padma, Etc.

EmmyChristinaHendricks2 Emmy Awards: Heidi, Kim K, Padma, Etc.

These big production red-carpet events are not really for me, I have finally realized. The gowns are too uniform and prom-like, the lighting is god-awful, and the guys shooting are no doubt great at jostling for position but haven’t the first clue about photographing fashion. So then the whole thing becomes a matter of personality, as in, the person you like the best looks the best. Stupid. Anyway, my quick thoughts on a few attendees….Christina Hendrick’s boobs (shown bouncing above) are amazing in that they almost seem to have a life of their own; Kelly Osborn is svelte-city with perfect eyebrows; Padma appears tired, not back to her sultry self yet post baby, Tina Fey getting worn by dress, and Jewel was there! Always admired her for her wolf tooth and great rack. There are many more in addition to the ones mentioned here after the flip.
