Inspired by British workwear from the 30s and 40s, the Rae Jones Autumn/Winter 2010 collection is filled with functional and comfortable footwear that never compromise style. Luv! Enjoy a look on the next page, courtesy of Rae Jones.
Nina Sky is getting reading to drop a new EP on August 3rd. In the meantime, check out the duo’s second single, ”The Other Side,” produced by DJ Yonny. I like this direction for them. And who gets the style credit for this image because the look is great! (MadeMe designer Erin Magee is the easy guess, but the crucifix, which speaks to Magee’s Madonna crush, has me doubling down on that bet!) Via MadeMe.
Another awwww moment. But really, don’t these make a thousand times more sense on a kid’s foot than a adult’s? The younglings run nonstop and they do sort of fly around the place, pretending to be spiderman and whatnot. I spotted these on J. Scott’s Facebook, otherwise I know not much about their orgins. Speak to me, my sneaker geeks, tell me the deal!
Jules Kim, the devilishly delicious designer behind Bijules just launched at collection called BJ by Jules Kim at Urban Outfitters. It features three different bar rings, a pinky ring and a nail ring. Those nail rings are semi-adjustable and fit over the the nail so if you were so inclined you could do a whole set and have quite the solid gold manicure.
The Colour of Beauty is a short documentary, which follows model Renee Thompson and her struggles to make it as a black model in the business. As she says, “I think sometimes it is so blatently racist it’s disgusting.” No one said this industry was easy and it’s a short-lived career move at best for 99.9% of girls, but it’s double vicious for women of color, as in casting calls where black girls are told not to bother. Flat out. This seems to have gotten a lot of press way back in May so we’re a bit behind, but I image there are plenty of you who haven’t seen it and it’s very much worth a view.
I landed on a Dave Chapelle rerun last night and the skit’s theme was a video camera that revealed, among other things, the inner thoughts of the person being taped. And that’s what I thought of when I see these Steve Shein cuff bangles–all those bratty thoughts you generally keep to yourself, but damned if you are thinking them hard sometimes! In the case of Shein, it appears it’s more a case of what either his momma or papa done told him, but either way it looks like the words are still bouncing around in his hed.
What is Disney without its dark side? Not nearly as interesting, that’s for sure. Here the brand pays homage to the Little Mermaid with a fish jaw ring from Disney Couture collection. Via 80sPurple and Karmaloop.
Tommy Hilfiger is about as big corporate as you can get–it’s owned by Phillips-Van Huesen, but still, given the return to prepped out looks we’re seeing, there could be an opportunity for the brand to make some waves. Or not. Anyway, these boots on StyleFrizz caught my eye. They’re featured in an ad, whose theme is a family called the Hilfigers…aka the dysfunctional version of the Laurens? Whether they’re eye-catching or not, I remain on the fence, something about the shoes and the photos, which seem a little out of place for right now.
Graffiti artist and shoe designer Insa (he’s the one who did the elephant dung shoe art piece) did a “collaboration” with Nike using a crisp white tee. I’m inclined to think this idea been done, but somehow in this instance it just works. Or maybe I’m being hypnotized by blonde power. Same model on the other side, only this time the tee is wet and you can see her red garters.
Great colors, thick heels and a slight nautical feel can describe B.Store’s shoe assortment for Spring 2011. We like A lot! Spotted at Capsule. More on the next page.
