Fahrd Fosté Spring/ Summer 2010

Inspired by the parallel universe of the aquatic world Hasan Foster titled his  Fahrd Fosté Spring/Summer 2010 Collection ‘Watercolony”. Presented in the great outdoors the collection showcased  Forters’s love of architecture and design coupling   highly conceptual pieces  with sports wear silhouettes. In collaboration with Sony Ericsson each model was carrying a little speaker  with the sound of their own music , as’ noise is the ultimate New York staple’.

As fashion shows in NYC can mostly be a succession of models stomping the runway to loud music, we are totally smitten with this young  line who consistently pushes the envelope of creativity , constantly challenging  our expectations. On the next page a closer look at Fahrd Foste Spring/Summer 2010. Check out his interview on Aleim Mag here.

Ashley’s Head Wrap , Individual Style & Inspiration

headwrap inspiration

A blogger  made an unflattering comment about Olsen’s head wrap at the YSL  Belle d’Opium  party we attended a few weeks ago, while Lois and I  on the other other hand were totally fiending over it . Not just because the accessory in itself was to die for but because style-wise we got it. In her own way this young woman illustrated a deeper understanding of fashion that is not always “styling appropriate”  in color choice or proportion proving that style and fashion are not always the same.  Having worked a a stylist myself I can speak to proportions, color choice, highlighting this or that feature. But, style is often is about how you feel what you want to express, the story, the glamour or un-glamour. Not always about having the “right” look, whatever that may be.

Therefore,  when  the fashion establishment sometimes frowns at bloggers (not that they all know what they are talking about) I get it because to some extent. There’s a lack of knowledge of the history of where certain looks or inspirations come from. The  head wrap for example was all about the true spririt of Yves Saint -Laurent,  who himself was Algerian, often featured caftans in his collections in the 60s, and made his fame by  artfully contrasting a sexy exoticism with functionality…think Marisa Berenson or Bianca Jagger. However too many out there don’t even know….

T Boys DIY McQueen Armadillo Booties

I always hear about a time in New York when the nightlife outfits made Fashion Week style look boring. It was all about creating your outfits and making a statement.  We spotted our buddy  T-boy, a reigning nightlife king/performer, rocking his own version of McQueen’s “Armadillo” boots, and we had to get images and share!
