Introducing: Pop’Africana Magazine
Created by Nigerian-born, New York photographer and editorial director, Oroma Elewa, “Pop’Africana was conceived out of a necessity for Africa to have a medium to genuinely call its own. The interpretation of the African is one that is marked with haphazard cameos that were often cyclic and tedious in sensibility. Clichés were rife and not one magazine offered up an antidote to correct these run-of-the-mill images pouring out of African culture. There is an inherent individuality about African people that is often shrouded by monolithic ideas and paradigms…” As we are totally smitten with the concept and aesthetic , on the next page take a peek at the latest bi-annual Pop’ Africana issue which is available for sale here.
