When you’re a sports fan that appreciates the beauty of men, when watching events there’s always the added bonus of checking out the various and sundry hotties. Soccer has never been a sport I follow, but one cannot deny that when it comes to great physiques, their athletes win the contest over other sports hands down. They’re ripped, perfectly proportioned and basically perfect. Blessings on Interview magazine, who dirtied up some of the stars from the American team for a photo shoot entitled “The Americans,” and also interviewed them. This page features goalkeeper and Jersey boy Tim Howard. For more beefcake loveliness, flip to the next page.

Lady Gaga is on the cover of Rolling Stone’s July double issue magazine. According to her stylist, Nicola Formichetti, Gaga is wearing a custom bra by David Samuel Menkes and her shoes (image next page) are by Noritaka Tatehana. Judging from excerpts from this interview and other recent ones, Gaga is very much obsessed with how her fans perceive her these days, and according to the article, “‘If I were to ever, God forbid, get hurt onstage and my fans were screaming outside of the hospital, waiting for me to come out, I’d come out as Gaga,’ she says, adding that she models her celebrity on Michael Jackson.” What’s interesting is her focus on how she presents as a celebrity–very Warholesque, but not so much Michael, who, one could argue was as much a victim of his own celebrity as a beneficiary.

Through its collaborations, Melissa has established not only that it’s savvy about who to rub shoulders with, but also that it’s willing to give its partners free rein to take some risks. In this case, it turned its design boards over to Italian architect Gaetano Pesce, whose resultant ankle boot includes giving the buyer the fun option of customizing her boot by cutting away the plastic circles. Not sure if there’s less ego in the look of the final product because Pesce is an architect and is less ardently married to the design, but if that is the case one would hope to see more collaboration between brands and designers from outside industries. While checking out nail stylist Naja Green’s Facebook page, the manicure featured here–which was posted by a fan named Alex–jumped right out. Using calligraphy in nail art is nothing new. I can remember long ago getting my first official Brooklyn manicure next to a mom and daugther, who was begging for the extra couple of dollars it would take to get the initial from her first name on her nail (a battle, which I’m sure she won). The design on this page is next level though because of the style of the letter, the placement, and the way the nails combine to spell a word, which very much reminds me of those love/hate-style knuckle tattoos. And by the way, this design is featured on the nails of a guy. After the flip, check out the his other hand, plus a close-up on the super neat designs on his thumbs.
