Paris Vogue Editor Carine Roitfeld attended the YSL show in Paris last week, looking very easy-breezy, especially given her rock ‘n’ roll tendencies. It looks like she even applied five less layers of  the iconic eye liner! Still, on closer examination we see she’s still packing serious heat around her neck and her wrist. There was quite the cornucopia of dresses for the BET awards this past weekend. Ciara looked very chic in what I assume is Givenchy, but a bit too gothic for the month of June (tho her mani is good–it looks like a gold and white Ruffian). Estelle gets my vote for best dressed though she and everyone else in general was sort of toned down. There was one, okaaaaaay-dress, worn by Brittany Daniel, but points to her for taking a chance and providing people the opportunity to point and whisper.

Fresh off an airport fall that racheted up comments about statement-making outfits, which are increasingly being viewed with impatience among pop culture watchers, Lady Gaga made an apperance at Elton John’s White Tie & Tiara event, which raises funds for John’s AIDS foundation. Right now she’s all about the bikini, which might not be as influential as was the body suit she helped bring to prominence, but the look has the potential to translate with the bikini top functioning as a bra. We’ll see. In the meantime today is Gay Pride Day, which of course HS wholeheartedly supports After all, besides the very important issue of equality, how not fierce would fashion be without its very gay foundation.

What won me over about May Kosaka’s Mothe  apparel is her continual attention to detail, the fact that a blazer a skirt or a jacket always features more than meets the eye. In a time where fast fashion has taken over, it’s refreshing to see young designers staying true to the craftmanship of garment construction and marching to the beat of their own drums. Vans celebrated its collaborative effort with Stussy on its “Baile” style with a launch party, which took place at the ’30s-themed Suffragette Lounge in Los Angeles this past Tuesday, with DJ Harvey mixing up the music.
