Recently-wed Lara Stone just inked a mega contract with Calvin Klein, which will make her the face of Calvin Klein Collection, CK Calvin Klein and Calvin Klein Jeans. According to WWD, it’s the first time in the history of the brand they’ve used one model for all three brands. Prior to Stone, Calvin Klein spokesmodels include Christy Turlington, Kate Moss and Natalia Vodianova. The article discusses the potential this deal has to “catapult” Stone into a new stratoshere of fame, but one has to figure it was only a matter of time before Stone reached the highest of model heights. Smart move on Calvin Klein’s part to get to her in such a big way first.

For her recent performance in Spain on Sunday, Rihanna went all in on the candy-colored locks trend, working with stylist Ursula Stephen to dye her hair a bright, cherry red and upped the ante even further by shaving all but a mop top. In reading the feedback on her new look on various sites, the consensus is very much a big thumb’s down. But oh well, by now it should be patently obvious that Rihanna is not going the people pleaser route…entirely the opposite in fact. She and three or four of her peers are very much invested in making avant- garde fashion looks a part of their performance package, and what’s fascinating is watching how competetive some are over who came first, etc. (Kelis vs. GaGa vs. M.I.A.) Clearly they and their stylists are borrowing and being inspired by each other, which is not at all a bad thing and actually great for fashion and fun to watch unfold.

The insanely stylish Luxirare took a vintage Chanel cassette clutch and had some fun updating it with a very current fox tail. The result is pure deliciousness. In what is looking like it’s shaping up to be a very successful pairing, Longchamp recently announced the second installment from its collaboration with Kate Moss. There are three different groups for fall, plus a revisit to the initial collection, which featured lots of zebra prints. The profiles remain classic, which in it of iteself is a plus, but what makes the collection stand on its own two legs are the color and treatment choices. Via Jalou.

Making me totally happy is the YSL Resort 2011 collection where Stafano Pilati serves  up a collection worthy of the great creator whose name the label bears. Illustrating the womanly side of  elegance and sophistication that has become almost rare in high end fashion .

 There used to be those labels that as a young woman you aspired to, not just because of their high end status  but mostly because of the refinement and   the sexy maturity they reflected.  I don’t necessarily see myself wearing all of the pieces  but there is a sense of history, to this collection  that I can fully appreciate, even a nod to the iconic “Le Smoking” (center) . Late last year we saw some men’s looks from the Levi’s X Gaultier denim collaboration and now we get a peek at the women’s. The bra top featured here is insanely iconic and speaks to the power of design to resonate through the decades and sometimes even centuries. If a designer can create even one signature look for which s/he is recognized through the ages, that has to be viewed as a dream-come-true achievement.
