I almost declared the clogs trend to be lost on me, I admire them from afar, but the most part, most styles are too clunky and, in my opinion not very flattering. Via Spiga totally takes away my hesitation with their Summer 2010 Styles, The Armenia above , the tasseled Allston, and the strapped Astro. A closer look at the Armenia on the next page. Available at Viaspiga.
While at the 80%20 event last night, one of New York’s most stylish residents, Bijules designer Jules Kim, popped by. When she enters a room, it’s really kind of amazing what happens, she has this sweeping presence and ephemeral beauty that stops everyone in their tracks to the point where people are flat-out staring. I mean just her cheekbones….for days! And yet she’s totally approachable and warm and magically charming. While we were catching up on all the latest, she reached under her top and pulled out her latest creation, a gold nipple plate (!!), which stuns with its original beauty. Not sure when we will see this as part of a collection, but you are definitely getting an advanced view.
Many more images of Jules after the flip, with close-ups on her shoes, bag, and of course those cheekbones.
As we mentioned, we were in attendance at the 5th anniversary party for 80%20 shoes last night. The event featured a walk down memory lane with a display showing many of the brand’s past designs over the years. The best part though was seeing the many, many people in attendance wearing designer Ce Ce Chin’s shoes! A lot of times at these events you don’t necessarily see tons of the featured brand being worn by the people in attendance, but there is clearly a very loyal following for this brand, part of whose genius over the years has been to offer forward fashion at an affordable price. For that, the downtown girls will probably always love and appreciate Ms. Chin.
Many more images after the jump of both the shoes on display and attendees.
The countdown to the World Cup 2010 has started, and I finally found some cute tees to showcase my love of the best game on earth! The LF soccer tees available at LF stores. Spotted on Ref29.Luv!
I am a firm believer in the statement making leather jacket. Independant of the season , or trends Surface to Air’s leather version with studs stands out as a piece you will wear for a very long time. Worth every penny. Available at oak.
After posting up images from the CFDA awards, it was pointed out to me that the super-fun necklace Paper magazine editor Kim Hastreiter (who won Eugenia Sheppard Award for journalism excellence) wore was designed by none other than Claw! On her site, she talks about the design and features a couple of others from the same collection. Always the best to see the ladies we know and love the most get the recognition they deserve.
Here is a first glimpse of girls oxfords from the very great pairing of two iconic brands, Vans and Stussy. Not sure when these hit retail, but there’s a launch event later this month so I’m guessing you’ll see them go on sale in July. Thanks to Vans p.r. champ Maria for the image!
Lots of folks are bright in one form of another, but the great thing about Ce Ce Chin, the head designer for 80/20, is she’s multi-faceted smart–creative, charming, possessing good business smarts, the list just goes on and on, plus she was blessed with amazing looks (woo-hoo, check out her shapely gams in the image above)! It’s almost not fair! Nah, the truth is we couldn’t be happier for Ce Ce, whose brand we have followed since its days back when it was mostly slip-on kicks. And later today we’ll be attending the 5th anniversary of 80/20 to toast all her successes. Look for some images from the event tomorrow. In the meantime, check out her interview on NYMag.
If you can get past the INCREDIBLY annoying way in which the ShowStudio interviewer conducted this exchange (he actually typed out each of her answers, his head buried in his computer while she responded!), you can watch Gaga give some very thoughtful answers to some good questions. In this first of 12 installments on YouTube, she is asked about the crossover between fashion and music and what inspires her (”it’s transcendent”), to which she manages to give fairly unique responses. She also addresses how she handles criticism.
Here is an ad scan from the June/July issue of Nylon magazine, which speaks to a collabo between watch company Baby-G and Married to the MOB. If you visit ShannonElaine, where we spotted this, you can see another one featuring Baby-G and and HellzBellz (two seperate collabos, mind you, not all three together). I’ve got an email in to M.O.B. designer Leah McSweeney on details…let’s see what she’s willing to give up.
UPDATE: Finally heard from Ms. McSweeney. Neither the watch in the ad featured here or in the Hellz ad are a collaborative effort. Both brands are doing a collabo with Baby-G, but at least in the case of MOB, it won’t hit retail until November 2011.
