Before you work yourself up, Roxanne Jackson is an artist not a shoe designer, but still, tell me you don’t look at these and think, of course, she just came out and did the obvious after a year of shoe designers pussyfooting around with the theme of hoof-inspired footwear. And the rest of her work is like that, too. On her site, she says,
I am concerned with confronting the shadows of the unconscious, having a a dialogue with the grotesque, and therein discovering beauty.
And here’s a quote from Jung that sits atop her statement:
A gentle and reasonable being can be transformed into a maniac or a savage beast. One is always inclined to lay the blame on external circumstances, but nothing could explode in us if it had not been there.–Jung
There are some more examples after the flip but do go visit her site for many, many more.
