It’s pretty much impossible these days to visit any fashion site without seeking oodles of fully naked models. Samia and I were trying to figure out what that’s all about. The easy answer would be upping readership, but this is fashion, which yes, commerce matters, but the art does, too. I was saying sometimes we don’t know what the message of art is until after the movment has passed, but I’m wondering if this doesn’t indicate that we’re going through a period of renewal…a sort of out with the old and something new is just around the corner. We just don’t know what it is yet. Or it could be as simple as magazines/photographers have discovered there’s a new envelope on what they can get away with and they’re pushing it to find out the limit.

Some very eye-catching just dresses from U.K. brand Belle Sauvage just landed at Pixie Market. This label is new to me so if you’re in the same boat as me, the brand was established in 2008 and is designed by Virginia Ferreira and Christian Neuman. They’re building their name on what you see on this page–designs featuring futuristic prints and angled silhouettes. In essence it reminds me a bit of McQueen’s last collection, ‘cept considerably less detailed/technical though also at a much lower price.

These sky-high wooden wedges U.K.-based Finsk [Update: a writer from the comment section says this brand is Finnish not English] just landed at Oak. They very much remind me of the Jil Sander wedges we posted a while back, more in the way the heel is stacked than anything else. Wedges are a big deal this year and if this and Jil’s entrant are any indication, designers are going to freshen this classic by creating drama around the heel.

There have been a few sneak peeks of the U.S. premium denim brand Current Elliot collaboration with Italian-lux brand Marni and the May issue of Vogue offers up one more, which is featured here. Definitely the screen print (or is it embrodery?) provides an interesting update on the worn-in boyfriend look on which Current Elliot made its name. The collection will retail between $180 and $500 and will be available at Marni stores, plus Barney’s, Neiman’s and Saks this June, according to Stylecaster.

Beyonce attended Coachella and performed with her husband, who appeared this past Friday, the first day of the event. Interesting outfit Beyonce is sporting here, a mash up of looks which has become something of a signature for her. No, her everyday girl look isn’t generally polished or slick but at least you get the feeling she’s choosing outfits that speak to her outlook as opposed to a staff of stylists.
