J. Crew fall 2010 images (ours are pulled from JCrewAholics) are floating around the fashion internets from a presentation the brand did late last week. The styling is nice and so is the photography, but underneath it all, the line is very low key. It’s funny about J.Crew…reading the comments about the brand and various blogs, they’re mostly positive, but there are always the one or two angry attacks, complaining about the clothing being stupid and overpriced. That perhaps is inevitable when your brand has some fashion status but is priced at the high-end of the chainstore spectrum. And truth be told some of  its merchandise is overpriced, but then there’s some cute, unique looks that are priced great. As such, it’s just not one of those stores (like Forever 21, H&M) where you can sweep in and buy something everytime you visit.

Finding an interesting meeting appropriate summer dress seems almost impossible in a certain price point. Lately as most of the warm weather offerings lean towards boho chic or something you’d wear to a cocktail party. Vanessa Bruno’s striped dress is one of the few that made the cut . The year was 1996 it was about silver jewellery, dark lipstick , square toe shoes with a platform and Lauryn Hill was getting ready to become a fashion darling .”Ready or Not”  was playing at every “cool” store in the mall: Contempo Casuals, G+G, Wet Seal…  In NYC,  it was all about Antique Boutique and Canal Jeans. Raise your hand if your can go that far back!

As signature a look as the Chanel quilt, newly available at Opening Ceremony. Question, if Alex were a contestant on Project Runway, would he be eliminated for showing a lack of ability to innovate? “We know he can design with stretch cotton, but if I see one more sweatshirt dress I’m gonna puke!” (Sorry, just watched a marathon of the Jeffrey Sebalia season, in which the judges repeatedly lambasted Laura Bennett for her excessive use of plunging necklines.)

Last night, Barneys CO-OP was brimming with surf-centric beauties as iconic surf brand ROXY debuted its collection with Cynthia Rowley. The collaboration, born on the beach, is comprised of equal parts fashion and function. Rowley (an avid surfer for those of you raising eyebrows) bumped/paddled into Randy Hild, executive vice president of marketing at ROXY while catching some waves with her family in Montauk NY, where she has a vacation home.

The chance meeting has evolved into a full-on 40 piece collection for Roxy, basically everything that you would need for a weekend getaway, including a one-piece bustier suit and the neoprene ballet flat. Sun kissed ROXY pro surfers, Kassia Meador and Lisa Andersen, were on hand to model some of the looks from the line, injecting a sense of authenticty into the event. One of our many favorites out of Spain, Anna Figuera Delgado & Macarena Ramos Buil ’s El delgado Buil presented their Spring/Summer Collection a few months ago, with their usual fun spin on fashion and construction.This season it’s all about ruffles. Placed asymmetrically on pants , jackets, blouses and shorts making each look very strong in volume. Nonetheless worn separately they each can get the shine they deserve. Enjoy the runway, especially the baton twirling at the end!
