look how how militarized our society has become.themes involving state violence and military weapons are infiltrating the media and reconfigured as popular images….rihanna, gaga (re:telephone’s full version…the american flag getup), m.i.a…… this is different from rap videos having guns, cause that’s sort of illicit and badass. rihanna’s dancers are in riot gear. frankly, i’m disturbed.
perhaps it is meant to desensitize us. troops in the street or heavily armed civilian police might be the next step in the trend of ‘preserving national security,’ which if we think about it is the increased limits on civil liberty. i wonder who’s on riri’s performance concept team. likely, dick cheney.
