PUMA Clever Little Bag

21 April 2010, 17.05 | Posted in FASHION WITH A CONSCIENCE, Fashion | 5 comments »

In the spirit of ecofriendliness and sustainability, PUMA has partnered with world-renowned designer Yves Béhar to create a new packaging system that truly rethinks the way shoes are sold. Béhar has designed a “Clever Little Bag,” replacing the cardboard shoebox with a re-usable shoe bag that eliminates the need for extra plastic carrier bags.

As a result of the 65% paper reduction through the “Clever Little Bag” concept, PUMA will reduce water, energy and diesel consumption on the manufacturing level by more than 60% per year. In other words: approximately 8,500 tons less paper will be consumed, 20 million Megajoules of electricity saved, 1 million litres less of fuel oil used and 1 million litres of water saved.  Fashion with a conscience. Gotta love that! On a next page a look at the apparel packaging reduction.

what about the statistics to show what the impact of manufacturing those bags are? cardboard is completely recyclable, whereas this is not. how many do you need before it’s just trash for a landfill?
