Accessory designer Dominic Jones‘ latest creations are featured in the March issue of Vice magazine. He’s evolved from studs and punk looks from last year to necklaces that speak to the oceanic cycle of life and death. It’s a theme Alex McQueen explored with his spring 2010 collection, too. And in general it seems to be part of a new direction in fashion of getting cozier with our animal roots, even if that mostly means wearing them as adornment, whether dead or living.

Indian actress and model Lara Dutta graces the cover of Vogue India wearing Joshipura, whose collection we featured a few weeks ago. When I think that Vogue is practically a global publication  I wonder why there is not more crossover of news and information. I don’t know about you but I am fascinated by fashion from other parts of the world… On the next page the feature on Namrata Joshipura.

Adidas did a spring 2010 lookbook, but changed things up this time by letting the models videotape each other. Not surprisingly the girls, who include Agyness Deyn, Ana Ivanovic, Cassandra Steen, Hyori Lee, Whitney Port, Tallulah Morton, Ciara and Cheer Chen, appear to be having a very relaxed good time. It’s a cute video and some of the looks are now available on line, including the Fafi X Adidas collabo items we featured a while back. Still no sign of that Ciara “Dance Sweater,” however.

The name play suit just puts a smile on my face. It’s  the  piece of clothing whose sole purpose is  for play, devoid of  overly sophisticated aesthetic concepts:. Last week we showed a couple of items from Paul & Joe Sister’s fall line and today you get the whole lookbook. This is a great looking line, it’s 100-percent wearable but still has edge and is ever so quietly daring. The Bambi-print thermal suit featured on this page speaks to the more forward side of the line, while the outfit on the right the more everyday look side.

Swedish denin brand Acne recently collaborated with French fashion house Lanvin on a dress and skirt collection, which is now available on line.  Check out the design on the denim skirt, a very chic take on a very classic silhouette.

The CFDA Fashion Award nominees were announced last night. The event took place at CFDA President Diane Von Furstenberg’s studio in the Meat Packing District. Already we know there’s going to be a Special Tribute Award for Alexander McQueen and Chris Bailey of Burberry will receive the International Award, plus Iman wins the Fashion Icon Award and Michael Kors is the recipient of the Jeffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award (can he get a little something extra for also being the break-out comic of Project Runway??). 

I’ll let you go to the link to see details, but the hottest and heaviest competition will be between Marc and Alex for the Womenswear Designer of the Year Award. Marc has won the award twice but not since 1997. Still, my money is on Alex, everyone’s current darling. Which leads one to wonder which collection will be the first one that causes his adoring masses to turn on him. Remember Marc and his grunge collection back in the ’90s? That shit was crazy! Alex can only pray to have such a divine fall from grace.
