Vans Saddle Shoes!

VansSaddle1 Vans Saddle Shoes!

Vans rep Maria sent me images of these oxford shoes, aka the Sophie, and I was immediately smitten. I’ve been less-than-crazy about the menwear-inspired oxford trend, but the saddle shoe pattern combined with the wedge heel softens  the masculine edge of the design and transforms them into a shoe that’s ultra-charming and meets my girly-girl minimum requirements.

If you aren’t a fiend for white shoes like I am, there are a couple more solid-colored styles after the flip, including one featuring the famous Vans’ check. Looks for these to retail Spring 2010.

Am I the only one who is saddened to see brands like vans create items like these. Not that they are a bad look, but Vans already has an identity, an a very successful & strong one at that. I feel that when brands like Vans, Redwing, Clarks, Dr. Martins, Converse, and Levi (just to name a few) start following trends it cheapens their name and compromises their identity, and when this trend in americana is over their name will carry less prestige. I’ve always loved LL Bean and take a lot of heat for it in the past, but now I fear that I’m going to end up seeing them colab with some streetwear brand or shop.

  4. Yeah, Mitch, the balance btwn staying pure and trying to stay in step with the times is a tough one. Vans women’s has always strayed into fashion more than the men’s line and these latest offerings are actually a big improvement. I think a collabo here and there is okay, you just have to be careful who you do it w and not let it overtake your brand.

I agree that balance is always key when straying away from the roots and heritage of a brand. The cool thing about this shoe is Vans really kept the styling in line with the original upper lines/paneling of their Era and Autentic. Overall, I think this is a great feminine interpretation and choice for a girl who loves the Vans brand.

OMG. these are amazing and i love them and i want them.
