When I saw these babies I was stunned and then I read Sara Mower’s decription of these  Alexander McQueen’s Shoes: “…their gangly legs sunk in grotesque shoes that looked like the armored heads of a fantastical breed of antediluvian sea monster…” Nonetheless  all I can think about is the face of the cobbler who had to make these, and then the fact that from the front these “booties” look totally different than they do sideways. One of  my favorite observations in fashion is the ability of those who have been at it for a while to truly have ” a look” , a signature. Something that you often have to hold on to regardless of what the trend forecasts say or even sometimes what you know the buyers want. Because at some point yes you want to look at clothing as practical and wearable but there is also an element of fantasy , art & creation that makes fashion what it is.

A perfect example is my beloved Jean-Paul Gaultier who showed in his spring 2010 collection his talent for creating high end fashion with a pulse on the streets while always maintaining his signature  provocative edge. Titled “the G Spot” Gaultier    made   a corset for pregnant Jourdan Dunn,  and revived the signature “cone bras” that Madonna made famous in many variations including denim. Be&D , created by Be Ithavong and  Steve Dumain  , started their namesake collection in  2004. T he Garbo Satchel (above)  one of their  signature handbags became a total success. The bag quickly became a must have to the very well  accessorized women with a penchant for the luxurious. But regretfully , also got knocked of like crazy!

We had the opportunity to preview the Be&D Autumn/Winter ‘09 collection , and I  can honestly say that I would  rock any of the bags and shoes without hesitation.  The collection features a mix the punk  glamour  studs with ,  feminine  details like  ruffles , making these  accessories  modern , edgy,  classic pieces  that you will treasure for a long time. A closer look at my favorite pieces from Be&D Autumn/Winter ‘09 on the next page. 

Just came back from a quick trip in Vancouver BC, and discovered designer Kristen Bond,   at the Gentille Alouette  boutique.She carefully studies the pattern of leaves and feathers,  to create pieces that seamlessly blurs the lines between fashion and  Art. These few images do not do justice to the obvious craftsmanship her work showcases. More on the next page.

As the back pocket “Arcuit” and Red Tab on a few pieces from Gaultier’s Spring/Summer 2010 Collection seem like a continuation of the men’s collection announced back in june.We can only define this denim  collection  of Gaultier did  for Levis as  a match made in fashion heaven.
