A couple of years ago  Levi’s printed a tees titled “we were here first” As simple as the graphic tee was,  it echoed to me  the willingness of this’Icon’ brand to take hold of it’s heritage and stay true to istself. For Autumn/Winter 2009 the women’s collection illustrates this purity of denim’s aesthetics with slight ‘lived-in details’. Because let’s face  it , some of these fast fashion denim styles with extreme tearing and bleaching will not make it through two seasons . The Furla  Talent Hub project gives young designers and opportunity to create a capsule collection under their label. Previous collections were created by Nicole Brundage (luv!), courtney Crawford  , Alice and Lisa Ferrari of Maricó. This fall Leitmotiv by Fabio Sasso and  Juan Caro created a capsule collection of accessories inspired by Alice in Wonderland showcasing  not only  their special talent in graphics but their ability to use a theme  like ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and make it refined with not an inkling of cartoon . When I moved to NYC in the late nineties, Manhattan Portage was making a killing! Sport -Chic was in its prime . Most brands like Ralph Lauren , Calvin Klein , Tommy Hilfiger  to name a few were making major  dollars embracing the urban youth culture and , Manhattan Portage Messenger Bags were just ‘ de rigueur’ and,  Canal Jeans (Remember them?) was where you went, to get you gear.
