One of my fondest memories of growing up in  Montreal were the frigid  winter evenings when my dad, my sister and I would stay home and watch boxing matches together. While I confess my sister  and I too often attempted to ”practice ” boxing moves on each other (hey that’s what kids do),  I remember always wanting the shiny shorts the boxers wore, dreaming of rocking them to   first grade, flossing on the playground. Imagine my joy of finding that Walter van Beirendonck  actually designs really, really fun stylish ones. Zooey Deschanel, featured in the OliverPeoples 2009 campaign, has partnered with the  eyewear label  on a limited edition style the Zooey (above) available  on pre-sale at OliverPeoplesfrom February 15  to March 15. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Jennesse Center for Domestic Violence Intervention Program.

Nicole Brundage describes her style as “sensually inspired, fluent and erotic with an ultra-modern austere finish.” For Spring /Summer ‘09 the Texas native, Stanford graduate, presents a collection of pumps and  sandals that   really just make me weak in the knees. The sculptural accent to her footwear, clearly illustrated in the  Uma pump above, is just one example of what makes this footwear designer stand out from the crowd and thoroughly HighSnobette approved !

The luckiest varmint in the world!

The images are all over the usual places so by now you know that yes, you missed out on one hot opening–that being Shephard Fairey’s first museum retrospective at Boston’s ICA. Endless props and kudos to the workaholic crew at Karmaloop, who put their own very cool beans spin on the event by not only sponsoring it, but hosting a pre-event dinner (where we found ex-Laces N.Y. boutique own Louis “Sexy Lou” Colon, who we now know is doing it for the Boston-based P.F. Fliers), and an after party, too!!

Extra massive thanks to Dina and Greg Selkoe, founders/owners of Karmaloop, who let  us stop by the office for a tour. Together they define what is meant by the often-over used term “good people”:  creative, SMART, generous, expansive,  loyal, humane and slightly nuts. Which is all illustrated rather nicely by the image above. It’s Dina trying to introduce me to the very shy, office glue-trap mouse.  The back story? Once when Dina and Greg were away, someone put down glue traps, which were quickly removed upon the owners’ return. The fellow in the cage here was rescued from one of those traps, deglued and provided with a posh home where he will never again have to worry about any traps of any sort. Gotta love this sort of happy ending.

In this new state of denim market saturation ,a denim label  has to have the ability to differentiate itself.  Adding variety to it’s assortment and having high quality standards are important,but more and more a  genuine social and humanitarian involvement  has become more relevant and I would  even say necessary. Nobody Denim created in 1999 by Nick and John Condilis have done just that,  extending  the concept of Nobody  far beyond denim . For more info www.nobody.com.au

Lois is really good at doing the sporty look, with this chic urban vibe. For some reason when I try, I end up looking like I just left the gym and forgot the rest of my outfit. The For The Love  Of God Nike  jacket  has a little old school look that I  like. Trend-wise  this is prolly circa 90’s or early 2000 not a major concern at HighSnobette we do our own thing.
