By now the fashion world  is obesessing over Michelle Obama and her choice of a Jason Wu gown for the inauguration ball.Very nice indeed! However the hottest thing for me,the quintessential moosh ball,was the undeniable chemistry between Mr and Mrs Obama.It was like watching a wedding.There  are emotions you can fake but this here,looks like the real deal…

Typographic artist Niels ‘Shoe’ Meulman the originator of Calligraffiti has a thing created a collection silk scarves,Unruly .Originally these luxury  scarves were created for the women of  Europe’s high streets but now complement the girls and boys of all streets. Gutters even.Not apparent at first glance, a detailed look reveals the designer’s roots in graffiti and anarchy.More on the next page!

I have to admit that in terms of recycled accessories sometimes , even with good intent and creativity some pieces lack the high fashion element needed to get our love.You know what I mean, some pieces and up looking like a school project.The future does look brighter tough with designer like Gulnur Ozdaglar who uses PET bottle Poly(Etylene Terephtalate) for pieces that are stylish elegant.

Yesterday we got a glimpse of the Reebok x Basquiat collection for f/w 09. When it comes to artist/sneaker collaborations ,I have to admit to a serious weakness for Basquiat.The sneakers are inspired by actual paintings  and stay true to Basquiat ’s  somewhat erratic aesthetic,I love that the designers did not replicate the same graphic on each sneaker.More on the next page!

Russian born designer Yelena Konovalova has brought us Cut-It-Out, a collection of jersey pieces covered in intricate patterns. Heavily inspired by Russian folklore, the designer created each pattern using a process of cutting and folding paper. The look is very reminiscent of those preschool, homemade snowflakes from my child hood. Three seasons in and Cut-It-Out has remained consistent in its aesthetic…which I figured could get old quick… yet it manages to breathe new life into their signature patterns using bold, new color palettes.

 The current collection features some really fun separates including hoodies, leggings, and tunics. The standout piece however is the blazing red, over sized, button down sweater…easy to wear over jeans in the winter and while I’m not one to usually forgo pants and do that whole “hey look at me I’m wearing a really long shirt and calling it a dress” look…I think this piece would be perfect all by itself in the spring.

One of the coolest  shops I visited in Sweden had to be the Weekdays Stores.The design and vibe of the stores are low key ,chic and the assortment is of course on amazing .The Swedish retailer originator of the  Cheap Monday label  arrives in the us with a pop-up  location featuring its WKND line, opening in the chinatown section of los Angeles www.Choosechinatown.com:

"Mirroring today’s anxious mood, the WKND collection invokes images of destruction in the form of earthquakes, flooding, typhoons, and volcanoes. In this dark reality, WKND designer Peter Jansson has created a stimulating collection of batwing jackets, leggings, tanks, and tees. The prints used in WKND SS09 are derived from real typhoon photographs and from hurricane shapes based on traditional lace patterns. The mix of modern photography with old world craftwork represents the axiom that in the face of destruction, people return to their roots."
