When I walked in to Opening Ceremony in Ny a while back, it was like one of those ...Finally!! moments.The design of the space was fairly simple and even cozy on so many levels and the apparel/accessories selection made me weak in the knees.The almost rigid modern edge that can often be present in high/modern  fashion retailers was nowhere to be found, and that was so refreshing.Dean Mayo Davies of Ponystep interviewed Carol Lim and Umberto Leon the brains behind Opening Ceremony you can read the whole feature here.

There has been many times where some of you ask how to get in to fashion how to get in media, to be honest one my answers  is always look at the ones ahead of you look to the women "Who are doing it" . One of them is Rose Garcia aka " Radio Rose" a hustling fashion diva in the good hardworking, sincere sense of the word.The idea that you have to be a mean diva  to do well in fashion or anything elese  has to stop! Rose does her thing,and   does it well while remainning kind ,friendly ,approachable funny and cute, the woman is a sweatheart! Worship Worthy has shown her some well deserved Love!

HighSnobette-Hello Ebony! thank you for taking the time to do this for us! Nuvany Ni'ce is your site, can you describe it to our readers?

 Wow, thanks for the invitation...I'm an avid reader of Highsnobette, so this is definitely an honor! Okay where do I start, I actually started Nuvany Ni'ce to sell unique finds that I would come across on my weekly shopping excursions. And it has definitely evolved into much more, I do mini-interviews with indie designers and artists, host giveaways, blog about my life, out-n-about(street-style photos,events), a new feature called Grinding(check it :),promote various events...I'm constantly adding new elements to the site and I think that's what makes it unique and keeps things fresh!

 
HighSnobette-What do you think of Trends in general from shoes  accessories,to apparel?

E- I have never been a trend kinda gal...I can remember in high school I lived in Seoul, South Korea and I bought a pair of tennis ball airwalk shoes(they were literally neon green tennis ball material)..I got clowned so hard for wearing them to school, but it just fueled my creative interest even more...NYC is such a great place to see real creativity in action...When I'm out scouring the streets for style photos for the site, I'm very selective of who I'll snap a pic. of...To me being stylish is not exclusively following trends but being able to mix it up old,new,vintage,high-end,cheap...Whatever goes as long as YOU make it hot!

HighSnobette-What has been you fave trend? if any and your least fave?

E-If I had to pick a trend it would be all the various remixes of African fabrics..I've recently fallen in love with indie designer Maya Lake of Boxing Kitten...She's sick with it, I've been waiting to find someone that designs wearable modern clothing using African fabrics. I'm also a lover of vintage ...Vintage has been very popular lately within the mainstream of fashion, everyones rockin vintage these days...Designers are referring to the past even more for inspiration with their collections. Hmm my least fave trend would have to be people that go overboard with the 80's retro look, head to toe neon, eh eh(in my Nigerian accent)!

SGP-where did the idea for Zulu Rose Stem From? Is it the need to create, Be lucrative?

 A-One of the core ideas behind Zulu Rose stems from my belief that the world is ready for people to start making powerful, beautiful, and original ideas. To be a Zulu Rose means to dare to be original in a time of rising conformity. Sometimes that originality just means embracing your own uniqueness and standing firm on what you believe in. But there is also that responsibility of being a modern human living in our degenerating landscape. I choose Zulu because it is an icon of personal strength, fraternity, and the discipline of a warrior (Shaka Zulu). The Rose is symbolic of nature – beautiful and now increasingly belligerent. I continue to feel the need to create, because I feel my message and ideas about life are relevant to the condition of the planet and beautiful people. I see fashion as a wonderful vehicle to express my vision in a way that is fun and accessible. I am not caught up in a trend or a particular fashion look. I am just working so hard, so that one day Zulu Rose can be a chic style all of its own.

 SGP-Africa in the Us,to me is mostly represented as an Aids and povery stricken continent Did you intentionally want to include fashion as one of its denominators or was it a coincidence?

A-I am so tired of how the United States media portrays Africa and foreign affairs in general. The world is no longer isolated, and shifts and trends in one region can have a tremendous effect across the globe. An artist in Africa could inspire a whole new movement (i.e., Fela Kuti). People need to know what is happening (I give thanks for spotlighting me in your magazine). It is so obscurant for the American media to paint Africa (and the rest of the world) with such a coarse brush. One of the defining themes of my label is to link Zulu Rose to the progressive spirit of post-colonial 1950-70’s Africa and the idea that Africa could be a tropical paradise. I love the music, art, and fashion from that period. I am always surrounding myself with that kind of energy and it is growing on me. My next collection is called “13 months of sunshine.” It is inspired by the inner light of African optimism that is continually shining, the colors, the positive vibrations, and the progressive energy that characterized the art, photography, fashion and music of African countries that had just won their independence in 1950s-1970s. I think that era has much to teach us still, and I want to show Africa and the Diaspora as being inviting, fresh, culturally diverse, global aware, spiritually independent, economically savvy, fun, fashion forward, and most importantly commercial. There is already so much negativity in Africa. The AIDS, poverty, brutality, corruption, molestation, genocide and evil all exist beyond my understanding. Why focus on what is already known and over blown.

  SGP-Do you consider Zulu Rose an afrocentric Label? If yes Why and if no why?

This depends on how you define Afrocentric. Zulu Rose is for everybody, so I think it is safe to say “Zulu Rose is nature-centric.” It is the natural style, elements and environment of Africa that I use to inform my ideas and aesthetic. If you like nature then you will like Zulu Rose, because Africa is very natural and my particular style is an extension of that. I think what makes Zulu Rose special and authentic is my connection to Nature, my mind, and my love for art, quality apparel and fashion. Anyone could make an Africa T-shirt but it would not be a Zulu Rose. On the other hand, a main stream label could lift some of my graphics and no body would think it was ‘African.’ Zulu Rose is a fusion just like me (my mother’s family is North African and my father’s family is Caribbean and European).  

SGP-What is the Dynamic between you and Wunmi´

 Wunmi is my lover and business partner(in that order). She also helps me to realize my designs because I am still learning the intricacies of professional tailoring and pattern making and she has so much experience as a world class costume designer.

sgp-Hello Ladies -First of all tell us about yourselves Name-age- origin?  

Jee-Nice a.k.a. Jeannette Petri, Editor-in-chief/Art Director of Anattitude Magazine & photographer & artist, 33, of german origin. Jee works together with the help of a handfull contributors and friends to produce AM.

sgp-Why Anattitude magazine where did the idea come from?

We started in 2005, cause we thought that the world needs a dope print magazine representing the coolest international Hip Hop ladies with attitude!

sgp - What do you want people to know about Women in Hip-Hop?

 We want to represent the majority of women in Hip Hop culture with a strong, independent, sexy and intelligent attitude in contrast to what we see in the mainstream.

sgp - If I knew Nothing about women in Hip-hop what are some CD's books u think I should pay attention to?

To get a great overview about the Females in Rap, I can suggest the all time classic "Hip Hop Divas" by Vibe. And I also want to recommend the last book of one of the best Hip Hop photographer Janette Beckman "The Breaks: Stylin' and Profilin' 1982-1990". Janette Beckman shot all the the important ladies & gentlemen of the early days of Hip Hop culture. To come to rap music, I really like to mention the dopest french MC Casey! And sure please pay attention to what we are going to organise in Berlin this year! The one-month female Hip Hop festival "We B*Girlz - Festival" comes with a lot of workshops, parties and expos. Anattitude and Catfight Magazine are organising the female Hip Hop expo "Hip Hop Ladies with Attitude" presenting the dopest females in Graff and History. So watch out for it!! Be there! 

sgp-What has been the hardest thing about launching this Mag?

 To realise how much work it is!

sgp-The best thing?

Fun - to meet the coolest ladies...to build up bigger networks. To keep it real!
