Helmut Lang Is Back!

Art

Helmut Lang, the man  is Back! He is one of the very few designers whose lines I have loved entirely and whose designs I have been obsessed with...Years later after he left the brand who still holds his name, we clearly see how his aesthetic influenced fashion. He is opening in Hannover,Germany a month long multi media art installation, titled "All the same difficult" or "Alles Gleich Schwer" showcasing his thoughts and ideas:

"The continuity is illustrated by the fact that, what is important to me,is  expressing  the appropriate form, content and context of different forms of mediation and other dimensions." HL

Following the announcement in February to cease production of Polaroid instant film, conceptual photographer Lynnette Astaire's New Orleans inspired performance comes highly anticipated at this years Deitch Art Parade. In it's 4th year, the annually curated event, sponsored by Deitch Projects, Paper Magazine and Creative Time, marks the beginning of the fall art season in New York City.

The event is held on West Broadway in the Soho neighborhood of New York City. Past and current performers include Yoko Ono, Kenny Scharf, Scissor Sisters, and Steve 'ESPO' Powers. Lynnette's piece, entitled "The Polaroid Funeral"  is a live adaptation of a self portrait session produced earlier this year. Classically trained in dance and music, this marks her debut in the art world as a performance artist.

Miguel Androver is Baaaaack Hooray!!!!

Common Sense, Art, Design, Fashion

Fashion like Art, is a platform of expression seldomley exploited by designers, very rarely do they use their creative platforms to not just please buyers  and  say something about Social Issues ,present their line on average non-model folk or just have a wide spectrum of ethnicities on the runway..

Miguel Androver is one of those who won my appreciation when I attended his show in 2004 ,if my memory is the correct even the program was designed as a Travel boarding pass..the show (snapshot above)was a visual treat with poignant social undertones....According to WWD he's back !

and that makes me one happy camper!

see the Show here

enjoy

My Bacon Tee is Better than yours!!!

Common Sense, Art, Design, Fashion

Oftentimes In the US it seems we go all around the world adressing needs while the ones we have next door are neglected...

"BETTER BACON apparel features one-of-a-kind designs by kids and young adults with developmental disabilities and all t-shirts have a truly remarkable story. Each item of clothing has a “Hang-Tag” featuring a Polaroid of the artist, a personal statement describing themselves and their creative outlets, and what they hope the consumer gets from the entire experience. The amazingly soft fits are created by these talented artists and reflect the excitement and sense of fun inherent to the Better Bacon name.  And even better… all artists gets paid for every single sale, regardless of company profits. Descriptions of all t-shirts below. They are actually quotes from the artists and trust me, WORTH READING!"

The quote below is the story behing this  white tee..

Daniel’s Rules by Daniel- I did not write these words for personal benefit, but so everyone with a disability could get treated equally. By this I mean that we should have the same sense of belonging as everyone else. They should be loved, respected, and their concerns- as well as their opinions- should be taken seriously. They should be given the opportunity to succeed. The rules are direct instructions on how to help people with different challenges, and they are also written to empower those who are not able to speak up for themselves. Also, if one of the problems of disabilities that I have written about were to happen to them, or to their loved ones, they will know what to do and what to say. I wrote those “Rules of How to Talk to a Blind Person” because I got tired of how people were treating us. I just want people to know that we all have external as well as internal disabilities. However, we may not realize it because we are focusing on other things that are not important”

 More Tees after the Jump...
