Growing up I remember watching re-runs of Charlies Angels and always loving the the fact that these beautiful women could seriously kick butt with great style.Somewhere along the way shows like that must have shaped my view of women as powerful and sexy,the ones that stand out from the crowd...Those entrance making divas,that catch the attention of men and women alike.They were sophisticated,intelligent,well travelled and always confident.

From the opening of their Spring 09 Collection( yahoo news) I can tell that Dean & Dan Caten of Dsquared probably  have the same image of women.Their line is not  necessarily  groundreaking,edgy or revolutionnary which in this case it's perfectly okay. They allowed their models to "Sass it Up" on the runway. Expressing a desire to convey looks and attitude,with cool, wearable pieces slightly hinting to the 70's.So many shows have the models look like robots,these pieces are the pieces any woman would want. you can actually see that woman talking ,heading a board meeting,  stylishly running errands,in real life...

I have had a major bone to pick with alot of the very big & mainstream  women's fashion magazines.For some time now there has been this trend of featuring barely out of the teen starletts as style Icons for grown career women.Think about it,most of us as teens looked up to the grown and sexy women we wanted to become.What happens then when as a teen all you have to look at is yourself...where's the aspiration ? And doesn't an Icon have to be around for a while to be an icon ?

Looking at Emporio Armani's s/s 09 I was reminded that this  grown career woman still exists and designers like Armani have never stopped dressing her.The styling of the line is impeccable.Great slouchy pants and shorts, he  makes a flower necklace look edgy... Although my personal choices tend to veer more towards the grungy or super avant-garde I have to bow to elegance when it's done well... As for the starletts,the Olsens are the only ones I could think of who would do justice to the line and RhiRhi of course.

When fashion teams up with good causes I find it to be a match made in heaven .Nobody Denim teams up with Charity:water, and Ivan Kane's Cafe Wa sTo create a line of tees to be sold this coming november at retailers world wide.The revenue in sales from each t-shirt will supply 2 people hygienic drinking water  in developping countries for up to twenty years.The tees , the artists and models like Selita Ebanks(above) Hip Hop Superstar Nas, Actress/Model/Writer Paz de la Huerta, Supermodels May Anderson , Musician Angela McCluskey to name a few  were shot exclusively By the One and only Mick Rock.

Fashion with a conscience you gotta love that!

I always love it when great causes and fashion find a way to cohabitate tatefully with no gimmick! Designers Againgst Aids, founded by Ninette Murk  has been able to successfully educate about aids with the help of designers who create various items for the sole purpose of aids awareness , we got to chat with Peiro & Michael ( below)

who showed us a full line of tees,intimates and apparel that designer like Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein Collection, Playboy Design, Girls from Omsk, Marc Atlan, Wayne Hemingway, Katharine Hamnett, Robert Smith (The Cure), Rogan Gregory, Chicks on Speed, Miss Kittin, Percy Irausquin, Christophe Coppens and Mingface have put their design stamp on various pieces for 2008

 To be Honest I am posting this out of sheer love and respect for Yves St.Laurent(R.I.P.) himself. I 'm not really impressed with the tote itself, I would think Stefano Pilati and his team ,who has shown that they lack no sense of creativity would have come up with something a little more original..

Women are powerful.Most of us don't know that and  it's a shame...I won't get in to the deep underlying issues.. but i'd like to bring your attention to  this fierce diva that is Cristina Fernandez De Kirchner,Argentina's current president.She is rocking a thick belt,wedge sandals,a necklace other than pearls,she has accessories on! In some countries women can be women...power does not have to be masculine...In the US ,we have issues..women in power if you take a closer look have to be almost masculine,granted taste and fashion are very individual , Nevertheless if you look at some of the most powerful women in corporations none of them usually have hair this long, or rock as much eyeliner...

To My corporate HighSnobette's I just want to say it's okay to be hot and have flava, sexy comes from the inside no need to cut your hair and wear turtlenecks to make "them" comfortable,cause you know that's what  corporate dress codes are all about, hide as much of a woman as possible,she can't express who she is...no bright colors,no bare legs...Seriously I wonder if Hillary would have gotten this far if she was "sexier" was there something really safe  and neutral about the bob and the pantsuits?

 Spulrging on the latest ,hottest x y or z can lead to reflection,and careful consideration if passion does not just get the best of you every time..Nonetheless one thing I believe every woman should have and prolly splurge on  is good luggage...

 The airlines try to charge you for every thing,food , choosing your seat, ,checking in a bag...So, until you have your own jet,you might as well keep your belongings with you and do so with a well designed,stylish bag.

Last Night Lois and I were invited to take part of an event by Ladies Lotto @ I heart Boutique, a real life cashmere mafia or lipstick jungle that reunites a  diverse roster of movin' and shakin' women in various fields of fashion,media and entertainment...

The chosen speaker was Camilla Ehlke one of the original founders of  Triple 5 Soul and the co-owner of Breathe-inn,who spoke honestly of  her journey from downtown fashion mogul to bed and breakfast owner... It was deep!

Ladies Lotto challenges the concept that women in fashion and media can be catty  and cold and creates a safe place where women can be women make business deals and collabos.. .while having fun and chatting...whether you rock kicks or stilettoes...You gotta Love  that!

I'm really on my feminist pulpit today... watching the olympics gets  me inspired...I 'll be back to showing u fierce fashion stuff ....but this tote by modern lovers is like a reminder that it is perfectly okay to be smart... the dumbing down of the female species  in the media seems to prevail alot in this country..more than anywhere else I would dare to say...Some look down on places where women are fully covered,and cannot speak in public..nonetheless their media outlets don't portray them as airheads or goofballs either...
