HIGHSNOBETTE EXCLUSIVE!!!:BERANGERE CLAIRE Interview

Fashion

One of the Lines that have caught my eye this Season Is Berangere Claire, Berangere's collection brings something Very Unique to the Fashion Scene,A sexy simplicity that is very refreshing.. I would wear Every single piece of it !..See what She told us about Her brand new line , as well as a Preview of SS08..

-Before we start  could you introduce yourself to our readers:origins,education,age,ect..

BC-My name is Berangere Claire(Berangere being my first name and Claire my middle name),( I got it wrong during our correspondance :( .. )

I'm 28,Frenchoriginally from a little city in Lorraine called Sarreguemines,in the North -east of France,on the Border of Germany where I lived 17 years.I then moved to Paris to study fashion design for 3 years. After Fashion school I started  working for various TV shows(MTV,Canal+) Until I started  My own line in January 2007.During that Period I was spending extended periods in NY for personal reasons.

 *Berangere looking through her assortment

-Where did the idea for the line come from? was it always a dream of yours?Or did you start creating out of the frustration of not finding the right clothes?

BC- Since I finished my studies in Fashion ,I knew I would end up creating my own line. But it was during my last stay in NY(where I stayed several months) That I started to design.I wasn't working so, I had time to really think about a line. It's not until I got back to Paris in January 07 with all my drawings that I really wanted to see the garments take life.

*Items from the BC SS08

-I love your Logo a kind of crest or emblem that adds a "cachet" even a little aristocracy reminiscent of Lacoste or Even Ralph Lauren..Where did the branding Idea come from when alot of Brands like American Apparel for example biuld their Succes on the Anti-Logo?

BC- In the beginning the idea was not to create a logo but a Crest. And that's really how I conceive it today I love the idea of belonging to a group, and the meaning of crests where every detail has a meaning. It really was about creating my own insignia with codes and symbols that have meaning for me...

* Preview of Fall 08

-In what category would you place BC is it street? contemporary? Is it important for you that your line be categorized?

BC-Being placed in a category does not really matter to me.I simply do what I like which is mixing all the styles and techniques( Street,Sport,Ready-to-wear)

-Ton style personel consiste en quoi ?

-What does your personal style consist of?

BC-My style is sort of Classic,For many years now it's been Levi's Jeans-Sweatshirts/Button-downs-Ballerinas(Repetto)-Trench(Burberry of course) altough I just bought an amazing one at Old England.Or I can be very girly..I love dresses, skirts and high Heels, but in a refined way I stay away from frills in general.I like Simplicity, sobriety, the masculine textures and colors.

 *Close-up SS08

-Quels sont tes labels preferes?

-Favorite Labels?

BC- Isabel marrant, APC.

-At Highsnobette we love kicks...do you have a collection?what are your favorites?

BC- Taking the risk of dissapointing you I d'ont really wear kicks.. only keds from time to time.So I don't have a collection or favorite model and to be honest I can never  remember all the names ..for me it's more likely Repetto ballerinas and Stilletoes : )

-Projets a long termes pour la ligne BC? Dans les cinq prochaines annees?

-Long terms projects for BC? In the next five years?

BC- My main project is to devellop my brand of course.. with more significant assortments and make a "Home"line.I would also like to find more vendors mostly overseas especially in new York. And , why not open a boutique in a few years..

-Et enfin to dream customer?qui aimerais tu voir. Portant BC ?

-Your dream customer?who would you like to see rocking BC?

BC-I haven't really come across anyone rocking BC that I did not know.So for now I think that  seeing a random stranger in the street wearing one of my shirts would be great.

Thanks a Bunch for your Time Berangere!

Laces Boutique: R.I.P. : (

Stores, Sneakers

Someone yesterday mentioned to me that Laces, the New York female sneaker boutique had lost its Nike account, and then I saw the news today on Racked that it's officially closed.

Retail is a tough business and I give Louis Colon, who opened Laces two years ago, props for having the balls to give it a shot. He was up against a lot from the very start. Beyond women just being a lot less dedicated to kicks than men, he didn't get a lot of support from the major sneaker companies, who to this day play like Mr. Big when it comes to committment to the female customer.

Store or no store, Louis remains a very good guy so we here at HighSnobette expect that he will recover quickly from this minor setback and be on to the next project.

Much love and props + sending some beer spillage in Lace's direction,

Capsule Cutie

Fashion

I know. I know! The Capsule trade show was last week, but sorry folks, these days my plate is fuller than an anoerexic's on Thanksgiving (my apologies to those w/ eating disorders, but you know Turkey Day is a total nightmare!).

Anyway, here's a shot of a show attendee spotted at the show. She was chatting with a friend on the phone and, natch, she had a British accent. What is it with you U.K. girls and style? Whatever it is, you have it ALL OVER us Yanks! I bow to your jaunty style greatness!

^^Everything on point from her curls down to her hightops

^^And now for her closeup!

Thanks, girl, for striking a pose!

(We're working on setting up a separate HighSnobette email account, which'll be great 'cause maybe then I'll receive 10 fewer spam msgs per day on how to make my penis rock hard because that's what all women prefer. Cheez, and they say women have a lot of stress related to body image!)

Anna Sui Spring 2008

Growing up being passionate about fashion and being a woman I looked up to many deisigners, one of them Is Anna Sui...Although if you look at alot of mainstream fashion pubs lately Anna and her female counterparts  seem to get less and less love...

Nevertheless at Highsnobette quality and creativity makes more sense  than the constant hype of novelty...so even tough she's not written about every where I picked a few of my faves from her Spring 08  that Rocks on so many

levels...

First of all the Hair Rocked..How Many shows aout there feature plain updos...

Aside from the funky hair and the socks the dresses are extremely versatile and really wearable ...

What I mean is that you don't need to be a super   accessorized  Bold and daring fashionista   to tastefully rock these looks...

This black Motif really worked for me..

so Kudos to Anna Sui!

M.O.B. Tee: Adam Tensta "My Cool" video

PerezHilton was saying how hot this new Sweidish hiphop artist Adam Tensta is and how Kanye is gonna love him, blah, blah, blah so I went to check on the linked YouTube video and low and behold, not only is Adam himself wearing a Hundreds tee, but the female singing the chorus is wearing a M.O.B. tee! You know, that one from the Valley of the Dolls with the woman clenching the pill between her teeth. Cool right?

Anyway, this is my very first time trying to embed a YouTube video here so wish me luck!

United Tradeshow ...What caught my eye: Nicacelly

Another refreshing Brand was Nicacelly who really came up with a feminine sexy version of "streetwear"it's like the aknowledgement that us ladies even tough we want  to be street... and cool ...and underground...and nonconformist sometimes we might might want to put on a dress ,a jacket,  a hot turtleneck that is not in every magazine or Storefront...

when I saw this I almost fell over ...can we say Hot!!!

Another thing about this line is the small details like the lining contrast on the

jacket and the  appliques of different patterns like the dress featured below

As well as canvas bags with simple classy patterns to match the jacket...To the ladies out there who like to match...

They say Italo's do it better... and that may well be the case with street modern jewelers Toy Me of Milan.

Sticking to their "We play Seriously" credo, Toy Me continues to transform modern day household staples into some of the most unique jewelry around. Take for instance, Paper Cuts, by Paris designer Thomas Jaillot together with Marco De Michelis. The silver scissors wrap around your arm in both the open and close position.

The BBQ ashtray will surly be a talking point the next time your guests need to step out for some air.

There is indeed something playful and modern at Toy Me. You'll want it.

Eve: Bust Magazine

Other

Eve is on the cover of the latest issue of Bust magazine. As a long time reader of the mag, I find her to be a bit of a strange fit. A few years back when she reached into our collective female chests and squeezed the hell out of our hearts with the wrenching "Love is Blind" it would have made sense, but back then unfortunately, the entire rap genre (not to mention Eve's additional status as a style icon) was pretty much lost on Bust.

Nowadays, the woman has not only had her pitbull-in-a-skirt swagger swiped out from underneath her by RhiRhi, but is struggling to resurrect her music career via a fourth album that has been pushed back repeatedly. Notably, the mag doesn't even acknowledge the delays and annouces the record as available when in actuality, it won't hit stores until the end of January (Eve hopes).

All that being said, girl still has her hot moments and if you ask me, her tough girl pose carries a hell of a lot more substance than Miss Umbrella-ella-ella. Case in point:

^^Where is the love? (Gorgeously photographed by Danielle Levitt)

The music industry, it's about as nasty as a business gets.

On a major side note, if you're wondering what the hell that whole connection between her DUI and Sean Penn was, this is what she said in the interview:

I've known him for a while through some mutual friends. Sean's one of those people who wants to help everybody, be it one person or the world. He is that person, and he saw what happened--I guess he was behind me or something. The cops were like, "Sean Penn is here." And I was like, "Oh, Uhh, OK." But he thought he could come and help me out, which I thought was a really sweet thing to do. I wish he could've. But it's all good.

Given the tales of Sean's own drunken adventures since her arrest, it all kind of makes sense, doesn't it?

Chat with ya later!

Superga: U.S. Launch?

Sneakers

At the WSA (a big giant shoe show that takes place in Las Vegas) last year, one of the cutest displays belonged to Italian shoe company Superga (see below). The company wasn't so much writing orders as introducing the idea of the brand to U.S. markets.

^^Superga at the WSA 2007. The shoes were tied to another great Italian tradition, red Fiats.

According to my sources, it was once sold here, but was overdistributed and eventually died a slow death. It's back now, migrating here based on the strength of its sales in Europe, where it's been a popular alternative to Chucks. The company promises that it's going to keep its distribution limited, and indeed, when just now I looked, the only online retailer selling it was Jildor.

I visited another Superga showcase after the WSA and there I signed up for a free pair of Superga kicks. Well, they finally arrived today in the correct size and everything. I like 'em cause they're something different from the same ole Converse, but the only thing is I'm starting to wonder how I feel about canvas.

Vans Spring '08 Preview!

Sneakers

Vans was previewing its spring 2008 line today at its New York showroom and I got a chance to go over there and scope out the goods. I picked out my faves and then Maria, who reps the women's part of Vans' line, showed me the stuff she thought would be a big hit this spring. Which ones are YOUR faves?:

Mine first:

^^Wellesley high-tops: I'm still loving the look of a pair of high-tops with straight legs and they don't come much more adorable than these. I especially like the strawberry-colored ones on the far right.

^^From the Vault collection: this one is a collabo with Detroit artist Niagara; again, I'm partial to these 'cause they're high.

^^A canvas slip-on from the Vault Niagara series. This one reads "I Am Not Your Bitch."

One more Vault Niagara: "You'll Tell Nobody Nothing."

Maria thinks a big trend this spring is going to be more streamlined looks. Here are some of the shoes that are getting a big response from retailers (not that ones above aren't; Maria thinks hightops are the hotness, too):

^^Pointy-toed ballet flats. The prints on these are really amazing.

^^Satin boat shoes. These images do NOT do these extra cute shoes justice (especially since the red one is out of focus, dammit!).

^^Low profile canvas group. The colors, patterns and fabrics are what help Vans stand out from the crowd. Plus, the little Vans logo is pretty happening, too!

^^Sk-8 Hi in white canvas. Maria said that this style, which, while not new, is consistently popular among stylists requesting products for shoots. I mean, how can you beat an all white classic? Every sneaker brand of any merit can claim one. The ones that can't? Well, they're just not as good.

I hope you liked!

Gucci Hearts NY

Accessories, Fashion

With the new Gucci flagship store on 5th avenue in NYC just around the corner of opening, the Italian luxury brand has got some special products aligned. They will be releasing a "Gucci Hearts NY" collection.

"Gucci is also launching a special microsite to go along with the launch of the "Gucci Hearts NY" products. All "Gucci Hearts NY" and Fifth Avenue products can only be purchased at the new Fifth Avenue store and each bears an inscribed internal "Gucci 5th Avenue" plaque" Via FWD.

Something to look out for! The "Hearts NY" idea is maybe not the most original, but at least they are starting to do specials for such events, which is definitely something a lot of people will be buying into!

Newton Running Shoes

I know we don't generally write about performance sneakers 'round here, but I spotted these Newton Running shoes in the latest issue of Vogue and thought they looked kinda fly. And since I do run (I'm a Brooks gal), I also like the shoes' technical approach, which is all about being light weight and coming as close as possible to simulating barefoot running (which, brag-brag, I just did this past weekend on the beaches of Puerto Rico!)

From what I can tell, the company is pretty new and as such, it gets bonus points for designing shoes specifically for women right out of the gate. If you go to the home page, you'll see that the inside of the shoe features a graphic image of Isaac Newton! Heh, design geekiness at its best!

Ta!

Inks Tote Bags

Graphic artist Pamela Mena is now designing tote bags, which you can buy on her sister TooFly's site. Proof that the Mena keep-it-in-the-family bond is STRONG, the Pamela and TooFly's Madre handmade the totes! How sweet is that?

We like!

Tie me up..

Spring is on my mind...I am officially done with the cold I have not seen the bright sun in days.. as it is about 35 in the BK  right now..High end designer footwear is a major ..major weakness of mine.. and if you have not figured it out by now my  favorites are quite out of the Box...

This Spring Alessandro Dell' Aqua and Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy have   given  me much to look forward to...There's a big trend of strappy  styles

They are usually very dainty  these versions give the illusion that you might actually be able to walk a block or two and they will not break...

The concept of straps all the way to the knee is very interesting especially that you have the option  to wear then as short on long.. don't we love options..

I  just cannot wait to see what the knockoff versions of these beauties will look like this coming Spring....

Enjoy!!

What can work for Him can work for me too!!

Something I have never been attached to in fashion is gender what I mean by this is that having been surrounded by clothes all my life I never understood why  certain clothing items could not just be unisex ..Alot of times the hottest Sneakers are men's,the coolest button down  shirts are mens and the coolest plaid shirts are men ..And Alot of women will not even look to the mens section for cool stuff and vice versa for the boys...I don't know if this is what Claire Berangere was thinking about when she created her line but thanks to her boys and girls can rock just about the same styles and no one feels left out...I call it effortless chic with a cute Logo!

enjoy
