Wow, thanks for the invitation...I'm an avid reader of Highsnobette, so this is definitely an honor! Okay where do I start, I actually started Nuvany Ni'ce to sell unique finds that I would come across on my weekly shopping excursions. And it has definitely evolved into much more, I do mini-interviews with indie designers and artists, host giveaways, blog about my life, out-n-about(street-style photos,events), a new feature called Grinding(check it :),promote various events...I'm constantly adding new elements to the site and I think that's what makes it unique and keeps things fresh!
HighSnobette-What do you think of Trends in general from shoes accessories,to apparel?
E- I have never been a trend kinda gal...I can remember in high school I lived in Seoul, South Korea and I bought a pair of tennis ball airwalk shoes(they were literally neon green tennis ball material)..I got clowned so hard for wearing them to school, but it just fueled my creative interest even more...NYC is such a great place to see real creativity in action...When I'm out scouring the streets for style photos for the site, I'm very selective of who I'll snap a pic. of...To me being stylish is not exclusively following trends but being able to mix it up old,new,vintage,high-end,cheap...Whatever goes as long as YOU make it hot!
HighSnobette-What has been you fave trend? if any and your least fave?
E-If I had to pick a trend it would be all the various remixes of African fabrics..I've recently fallen in love with indie designer Maya Lake of Boxing Kitten...She's sick with it, I've been waiting to find someone that designs wearable modern clothing using African fabrics. I'm also a lover of vintage ...Vintage has been very popular lately within the mainstream of fashion, everyones rockin vintage these days...Designers are referring to the past even more for inspiration with their collections. Hmm my least fave trend would have to be people that go overboard with the 80's retro look, head to toe neon, eh eh(in my Nigerian accent)!
E-Its definitely intentional, I've always been a fan of things that are different and not necessarily the norm. I'm constantly searching for designers and artists that have that "it" factor. It's the WHOLEEE grind of the designers and artists I feature, that motivates me to be a vehicle that links them to the world. The most inspiring part of this whole journey is seeing how one can literally create his/her own destiny by simply following their deepest passion!

The brand still doesn't have a line specifically sized for women, though designer Darin Hager is totally in tune with the love women have for kicks, and includes chicks with kicks among his promotional images. Living doll KimK recently posed for a Radar Mag photo shoot. The theme was the long ago and legendary Brooke Shield CK jeans ad campaign. In her interview with the mag, she gave the best comeback punch ever when she responded to Paris's description of her butt as gross by panning, "If Paris Hilton thinks my butt looks gross I really don't care. At least I have a butt." Exactly, Kim! Where did crazy Paris get off thinking that all the world loves a backless wonder?? Cheez!

I'll admit it, people, I'm not keeping up music-wise. My upness on the scene these days pretty much begins and ends with M.I.A. Slack. I know. So thank god for the ones who keep up. Here's a video I found on OrangiePorangie featuring The Count & Sinden featuring Kid Sister (I do know her!) and Flosstradamus. The music is almost as fun as the fashion as the dance moves. Or vice versa.
One of the major trends for Fall 08 is the statement neckpiece. Designers like Dries Van Noten,and Philip Lim,to name a few,have all featured standout necklaces on their runways.
Marzia G,designed by Marzia Della Cave,creates unique pieces inspired by her travels around the world.Her belts necklaces and earrings go way beyond trends any of these ,could be on heirloom status...Trendy or not some pieces are just good to have.

With shows like Gossip Girl being all the rage , The prep school look of course makes it's way to the fashion world with Ralph Lauren as one of its major well suited ambassadors.
I have always had an intense admiration for the RL label's styling and merchandising.They should be called branding 101. I remember visiting their headquarters in NYC and seeing plaid walls,leather chairs dim lighting even the freebie M&M's were color coordinated, their store same thing, even the maintenance guy is hosing the store front sporting a branded Polo and rainboots. For fall the uniform schoolgirl look is an option,although for yours truly who had to rock a tie and pleated skirt for pretty much all her teens,I can only think of one option where I might revisit the school girl... ; )

Melissa has a long history of collaborating with well-known designers, who, no doubt, enjoy the chance to create shoes that by virtue of the plastic they are made with are lighthearted and fun. The Brazilian-based brand had more or less disappeared from the United States over the past few years, but it's now back and its designs are as eye-catching as ever.

There was no way a trip was going to be made to Las Vegas without checking in with 80%20 designer Ce Ce Chin, a longtime fave around these parts. We didn't get long to chat 'cause Ce Ce was BUSY, but she let us know that response to her line was so positive that she's thinking of expanding her booth next year. Nice!

I'm telling you, there are still waaaaay too few streetwear designers addressing the wants and needs list of female customers. The floor of S.LA.T.E. was very much man world. Obey is NOT part of the female-ignoration crowd. For a while now, it's offered designs for women, and not just in smaller tee-shirt sizes. The brand offers the full gamut and it has a female designer (Argh! I just discovered that I accidentally left all the cards I got in my hotel room so I can't tell you her name, which sucks!!) dedicated to the task. UPDATE: I just an email from the designer. Her name is Erin Wignall and she is great!

Kid Robot had one of Project's funnest/nicest booths and like its stores, just looking at it made you feel happy. Much to my utter delight, there were plenty of women's offerings AND they let me photograph away. The following are all from the Spring 2009 line:

Ever since the U.S.-based Fila got taken over by the Korea-based Fila a year or so back, it's been on an upward swing. Shoe design got an upgrade and it signed perfect-fit rap artist, Nasir Jones. The company is just now delving into women's kicks (cute, albeit a tad heavy on the Freestyle inspiration), but it was this purple track jacket that stole my heart. Maybe it was the over-airconditioned halls of Project, but there's just something so snuggly about it!

I spotted this bag as I was headed out of the Pool section of Magic, and I knew I had to grab it for the Hello Kitty fans in our readership. Ms. Kitty is still all about the cuteness, but it's a toned-down, more mature and earth-conscious sort of cute. It's a startling viewpoint coming from the Queen of Carefree, but I guess even pussy cats have their reflective moments.
^^I'm posting this from my seat in the airplane. The vendor told me where you can purchase this, but it's stowed away in a bag somewhere and I don't feel like digging for it. Sorry!
This Fall "conservative" is definitely not in the vocabulary when we talk about accessories,and thankfully the buyers at Net-a-Porter never hesitate on the edgy standout pieces that make fashion so irresistible...
This piece By Missoni is a reminder of what great accessories can do for an outfit, granted if you rock anything more than a C-cup this might not be the look for you...
Tokidoki was showing its full line at Pool, including its second shoe collabo with Asics, which will launch in Spring 2009. Those I couldn't shoot (but we will have those later this month and btw, the line looks AMAZING), but there was all sort of other adorable things that I was able to photograph, including designer Simone Legno, who's pretty much as loveable and cute as his designs.

There is something very sophisticated a bout Carin Wester's S/S 09 , The silhouettes are a mix of casual and over the top , that create a very accessible wearable look, nothing too avant -garde or minimal,just the right balance!

Colette is one of those boutiques that has achieved what they call cult status, the fact that they have been able to artfully mix streetwear,kicks,music and high end labels have made them a constant pioneer in the modern luxury market.The hip and the cool never rock all one look, mixing it has always been where the flava is..
The new store has been able to fully express that with each area clearly defined,while still keeping a sense of accessibility, for example on the "Couture" Floor(img.above) the mannequins are at eye level and spread throughout the floor giving look and styling ideas right away...my merchandising self is doing backflips!

The Swedes take their fashion seriously, I don't know what 's in the water but according to Sportswear Intl, the new prototype for the direction of men's fashion is the hip swedish guy,(hooray!) the ladies do not dissapoint either,but we have been on to their style for a while.
