Derrick Adams current solo show, Deconstruction Worker, explores the architecture of the mind, the built environment and fashion in relation to the human form. With work that mostly addresses the male figure, a few pieces speak to a strong female presence in relationship with a complex urban environment. With possible nods to African textiles, intercontinental hairstyles, and an iconic hip-hop fashion accessory (chandelier/bamboo earrings), Adams once again delivers a nuanced body of work for multiple levels of cultural readers.Deconstruction Worker is on view at Tilton Gallery in NYC through February 11, 2012.

A$AP Rocky, aka Rakim Mayers, 23, Harlem born, pescatarian, formerly homeless……and oh yea, purdy as hell, just signed a multi-million dollar music contract. Naturally his press coverage has bumped up quite a bit since then. The photograph above is from an Interview magazine feature and here is a quote from the q&a in which he’s asked about homophobia in the hiphop community:

“Well, I haven’t been a gay activist. I haven’t protested for gay rights or none of that, but one thing I can say is that a lot of the designers I wear are gay and I like their clothes. Why can’t I be friends with somebody who’s gay? Why not? You can miss out on a lot by being so small-minded and stereotypical about people. It’s stupid. Who people like is their own business. It don’t concern me. I know what I do—and I’m having a lot of fun with the women that I’m with.”

Dr. Martens again choose Agyness Deyn and Ash Stymest as the face for its ad campaign for Spring/Summer 2012. The theme stays the same, too, “First Love,” and in the video here, model Agyness Deyn reminisces on the days she “snogged all day” with her own first. Listening to her narrate the spot reminds of Rihanna’s “We Found Love” video, whose intro was spoken by Deyn. “It’s like screaming…..” Via Streething.
